Spring Break 2009-Day Six

Last day in Disneyland. The park was very crowded. It's great that there are fast passes. We stopped in to have sillhouettes done. The lady that did them has been doing it for 35 years. We went on the Peter Pan ride last. So beautiful and whimsical. Abigail said that she is sad to have her time in Disneyland end. We left the park after midnight. GJH

Spring Break 2009-Day Five

Universal Studios...WOW. There is a new Simpson's ride. While waiting in line there are Simpson's clips to watch on scattered T.V.s. This is a virtual roller coaster, Seaworld, Pirates of the Caribbean, and a lot of other "borrowed" attractions. There is a roller coaster car that holds four people...this car goes up into the air in front of a large screen that shows you what you are doing Simpson cartoon style while you are feeling it all as the car moves through the maneuvers. There are even times when you get wet. Quite amazing. GJH

Spring Break 2009-Day Four

Abigail is a scary driver. She wanted a passenger on Autopia, so I volunteered. That was a very foolish thing to do. I think that I got jerked around more doing that than on the Tower of Terror. Thank goodness for the guard rail under the car. We all need to watch out for her when she is training to drive in two years. By the way, did I mention that Abigail is spine-chilling behind the wheel? GJH
We saw the Hughes family at Disneyland. Jeanne and Diane were there with Tess and her family. It's true that there is always a chance that someone you know might see you, so keep your behavior such that it's not a problem when that happens! GJH

Spring Break 2009-Day Four

Greetings from the Hurst Family Spring Break Vacation. We had a great day April 13th at Disney's California Adventure and Disneyland. Art and Laura had passes for DCA that expired on the 13th so we spent the day there with them. Laura showed us the Bug Country (or whatever it is called) rides that we hadn't been to before. The Heimlich the Caterpiller ride was very good as it taught the little kids about good nutrition, which was to eat your fruits and vegetables before you got your candy. We were able to coax Laura into going through the single rider line with us at California Screaming because that is shorter than the regular line. Then she got assigned to sit in the front row. She had never ridden that roller coaster before and said that she would have taken her glasses off if she had known that it did a loop the loop. I really think she would have opted out if she had known about the loop the loop. We also got her to go on into the Tower of Terror, which she initially resisted. But we all survived. The mistake was going on Mulholland Madness. I don't know if it was because they put Laura, Art, Grethe and me in the same car, but the ride did a safety shutdown with us on the top. I was on the dropoff side, and it was not a pleasant experience. Eventually they came and took us out and down the stairs. For our inconvenience they gave us three front of the line passes, which made the experience a little better. The Midway Games ride was exempted from the passes, but it was really amazing. Anyone who goes to DCA should definitely go on this ride. It is like Astroblasters in Disneyland, but it is a 3D interactive competition between the two riders in the car. Yes, Grethe did beat me. We used one of the front of the line passes to get us all onto Soaring over California before Art and Laura went home, and then we took the others over to Disneyland where we went to the front of a 45 minute line at Finding Nemo and then to the front of a long line at Peter Pan. We walked on at Pirates and headed for home after hearing all the stale jokes on Jungle Cruise. In between all that we took in the redone Small World Ride. I didn't see what the fuss was all about. Any addition of Disney characters was done pretty much in the style of the ride. We will be back there today for another late night at Disneyland.

Spring Break 2009-Day Three

Hello from Sunny California. Easter Sunday was a day of rest for us. We lounged about Laura and Art's house until the afternoon meeting block at the Foothill Ward in Riverside. The youth in the ward had participated in a Stake Youth Conference Pioneer Trek over their Spring Break, so the bishop had many of them get up and bear their testimonies. After Church, Daniel and his fiancee Kim came over to Laura's house for Easter dinner. She is a delightful girl, and we will all be glad to have her in the family provided she goes through with the wedding after meeting me. This morning we are taking off for a day at Disney's California Adventure. So check back to se if we are able to get a blog in about that tonight or tomorrow morning. ERH

Spring Break 2009-Day Two

Well we started our Seaworld adventure with the Dolphin Discovery. We sat in the soak zone but we didn't get wet at all. After that, we did tons of things. We went on Arctic Adventure, Journey to Atlantis, and Shipwreck Rapids. We decided to finish the day with something grand, which was the Shamu show. Again we sat in the soak zone and we got splashed. It was a great day and we were glad to finally get back to Art and Laura's and sleep. We also got a few Shamu souvenirs. ADH

Spring Break-Day One

Driving World: We saw seven temples on the way to California. Abigail sat down, shut up, and she even passed out cold drinks. The shut up part was a little dim, but as we became tired, she got the shut up part right. Celeste brought 16 movies and Abigail brought 5. They watched Wizard of Oz, The Best Two Years, Fiddler on the Roof, and Tinkerbell all in that order. We made it to Art and Laura's house before midnight in California, but past midnight in the Utah timezone. We also discovered that Abigail had left her wallet at home and we couldn't turn back to go get it because the sun was setting and we were almost to California.
